JEYDANE Reil would have turned a year older on April 27, 2023, but the fire that burned his home cut short his life 11 days earlier.

The 11-month-old infant was alone when the fire broke out at 8:24 p.m. Sunday, April 16, on Spolarium St., Barangay Duljo Fatima.

The infant’s mother was in an internet cafe, while his father was on a drinking binge with his friends at the time, according to Duljo Fatima Barangay Councilor Alberto Balondo.

Jeydane Reil was left sleeping at home with a candle burning nearby.

Fire investigators believe the unattended candle caused the fire that destroyed the family’s home.

The Cebu City Fire Office raised the first alarm at 8:29 p.m. Firefighters put out the blaze at 8:50 p.m.

The fire left damage worth P12,500. (BBT / LMY)
