BREAKDOWN: 59 Delta variant cases in Central Visayas

CENTRAL Visayas has logged a total of 59 cases of the more contagious delta variant of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), as of August 24, 2021.

Dr. Eugenia Mercedes Cañal of the Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas-Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (Resu) said that from July 7 to 30, they have sent to the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) 268 samples for genome sequencing, and 59 have tested positive for delta.

The 59 cases include the 19 additional delta cases reported Monday, August 23, by the DOH.

Below is the breakdown of cases:

* CEBU PROVINCE: 13

-- Samboan: 7

-- Cordova: 2

-- Talisay: 1

-- San Fernando: 1

-- Argao: 1

-- Boljoon: 1

* BOHOL: 1

* CEBU CITY: 12

* LAPU-LAPU CITY: 30

* MANDAUE CITY: 3

Cañal said all the 59 cases have been endorsed to their respective local government units (LGUs) and all have finished their mandatory quarantine but are still being monitored.

Aside from the local cases, Central Visayas also logged 14 returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) who are positive for delta variant.

The cases are the following:

* BOHOL: 2

-- Talibon: 1

-- Candijay: 1

* CEBU PROVINCE: 8

-- Talisay: 3

-- Naga: 1

-- Argao: 1

-- Consolacion: 2

-- San Remegio: 1

* CEBU CITY: 1

* LAPU-LAPU CITY: 2

* SIQUIJOR: 1

Cañal said all the 14 ROFs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and have undergone quarantine before coming to Cebu.

The 14 cases were endorsed to their respective LGUs and were also monitored accordingly, she added. (LMY/With reports from WBS)
