Carcar City implements traffic scheme

THE Carcar City Government has implemented a rerouting scheme in anticipation of heavy traffic the ongoing road expansion works in Barangay Perrelos might bring.

The Department of Public Works and Highways' Second Engineering has been concreting about 800 meters of the national highways in Barangay Perrelos since May this year.

On Friday morning, July 6, traffic worsened after a cargo truck and a multicab collided in the area.

Jonathan Tumulak, Capitol focal person for traffic management, said smaller vehicles going southbound are required to make a turn towards Sitio Catugasan and follow the access road going towards Barangay Canasujan and Liburon before exiting in a mall in Barangay Poblacion 1.

While small and large vehicles going towards Cebu City will have to contend on using the national highway.

Tumulak assured that local traffic officials in Carcar City will provide signages and even personnel to help guide motorists and ensure that traffic will go smoothly along the affected area.

Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura said he has asked DPWH Second Engineering District head Leslie Anthony Molina to order their contractor to conduct 24-hour works along the affected portions of the highway.

Apura said with the city’s Charter Day celebration culminating on Saturday, July 7, he fears that the continuing road works in the area could cause a massive traffic jam.

Molina, however, said in a separate interview that they can’t implement a 24-hour workload in the area.

But he has ordered the contractor, AR Adlawan Construction, for overtime work in the road project until it can finally be finished before December this year.

He also asked the contractor to conduct a seven-day road curing period, instead of the normal 14 days, in order for the road to be utilized immediately. (JKV)
