Carcar City thrives amid pandemic, inaugurates new sports complex

PROGRESS seems to be going steady in the flourishing city of Carcar down south, with a series of exciting milestones to celebrate before the year ends, including the blessing and inauguration of the new Carcar Sports Complex, the first in the city’s history.

On Dec. 15, 2021, Carcar will be having the formal inauguration ceremony of the new sports complex. Estimated to be around 2,000 square meters in area, the massive facility has an Olympic-size oval and swimming pool, and once completed, a stage and covered courts.

The sports complex was made with the youth in mind, so that they may have the resources to be able to enjoy sports and train to be globally competitive athletes. As mentioned by Mayor Mercedita Apura, the city also hopes to host the much anticipated annual CVIRAA Meet at the new facility.

Just recently, Carcar also officially opened its family park and Christmas bazaar, which is situated right in front of the city hall. Decked out with beautiful Christmas décor, the park is perfect for families who want to spend some quality time outdoors during the holidays.

By the end of the month, the new terminal will also be turned over. This will become the official stopover for public utility vehicles plying through the city such as buses and vans. With its strategic location, this will help businesses in the area and alleviate traffic along the city’s main highway.

These facilities are part of Vice Mayor Nicepuro’s “Carcar New City Center” vision, a plan he promised to fulfill when he first ran for mayor in 2010. After his nine-year run as mayor, his wife Mercedita stepped up to continue building his legacy for the city.

The Carcar New City Center sits on a massive 28-hectare piece of land. Currently, it is home to the city hall, public market, police station, family plaza, sports complex and terminal. By 2024, Mayor Mercedita hopes to have the fire station and a livestock auction facility within the vicinity as well.

(Thank you for your constant support, ever since Mayor Nice’s term and until now that I’m serving as mayor. Hopefully, all our dreams for this city will come true.)

It was a long time coming, but the Apuras’ dream for the city of Carcar and its people is slowly coming to fruition. These developments are not only a sign of the city’s progress but also a reminder of hope and optimism. Needless to say, the future is certainly looking bright for Carcar.
