CEBU City Police Office (CCPO) Director Royina Garma has ordered a reevaluation on the list of civilian intelligence volunteers to prevent them from being used by politicians in the upcoming elections.

The members of Barangay Information Network (BIN), Garma said, were trained only to give updates on their respective villages to the police.

Garma further said the BIN members are not allowed to carry firearms and they should remain anonymous as they are involved in covert gathering of information.

The police official said they will retain the BIN members, who are still active in tipping off the police about criminal activities in their barangays.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas said the intelligence units have started to assess the places in the region where there are suspected private armed groups.

He said they will also review municipalities and cities with a history of political rivalries.

The watchlist, Sinas said, will be finalized when the election period commences in January. (KAL)
