THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will be on full alert starting Friday, February 24, 2023, which coincides with Cebu City’s 86th Charter Day celebration.
It will also implement tight security on Saturday, February 25, while the whole country remembers the 37th anniversary of the Edsa Revolution, or the People Power Revolution.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Janette Rafter, CCPO deputy director for operation, they have already deployed police personnel to secure activities of the City Government as part of the weeklong celebration.
Rafter explained that being on full alert means all police personnel must report for duty and no one can take a leave of absence.
Even though they have not received any threats, she said it is better to be prepared.
“It’s a weeklong of activities. We already have prepared a separate security plan for each activity. Naa man gud aktibidadis nga naa sa sulod sa mga (Some activities are inside) establishments nya naa sad aktibidadis nga naa sa gawas (and there are some outdoors) so each of the activities requires a different kind of security,” she said.
Rafter said their security preparations are also underway for Saturday.
Although the CCPO’s alert status will be normal by then, she said they have organized a civil disturbance management team.
She said they have no word on whether militant groups will hold a protest to mark the occasion, but if there’s going to be one the CCPO will give them the opportunity to express their sentiments. (AYB/PJB)
