ALTHOUGH it had been postponed for almost two months already, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña's scheduled surgery in the United States for his hernia will once again be moved to a later date.

The mayor's wife, Councilor Margarita "Margot" Osmeña, said that while the procedure is not life-threatening, she personally wants to have the same set of doctors handle the surgery.

The surgery, though, might have to wait after the 2019 midterm elections.

"He can do it (surgery) here, but I was the one who insisted (to go to US)...I'd feel more secure if those who will operate on him will know exactly what they are doing. It's more for my peace of mind," Margot said.

The mayor was supposed to fly to the United States last August 4, but he decided to forego his trip, saying he could not leave the Cebuanos following the spate of killings in the city.

In April 2009, Osmeña had surgery to remove his urinary bladder, prostate and some 40 lymph nodes after being diagnosed with Stage 4 urinary bladder cancer in October 2008.

His doctors at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, declared him cancer-free after the surgery.

The doctors though, left a hole on Osmeña’s right abdomen and placed a urostomy bag to hold his urine. (RTF)
