AFTER having been declared by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as unfit for use because they lack the necessary paperworks from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said they will just wait for instructions from their superiors to seize the lato-lato toy.
The game lato-lato, also known as “clackers”, “clankers”, or “ker-bangers”, is now well-liked throughout the Philippines, especially among the students.
The DTI Central Office in Manila had already made an announcement that the government might seize the lato-lato type of toy that does not meet the safety standards.
The DTI said that because they are unsure of the chemical used to manufacture the toy and whether it is safe for the health of children or anybody else, the FDA ought to give a certificate of product notice.
For its part, the CCPO will have to wait for a directive from their national headquarters and the Police Regional Office 7 or an ordinance from the city government to seize the clackers.
According to CCPO Chief Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, they are ready to uphold the law, especially if lato-lato will be declared illegal.
“As of now wala pa man hinuon tay nadawat nga (we have not yet received a) directive coming from the national headquarters or higher command pero once nga naay ordinansa nga himuon ang atong local nga pangagamhanan diha-diha dayon mag coordinate pud ta sa FDA ug magpahigayon ta og operations aning lato-lato (but as soon as the local government passes an ordinance, we will work with the FDA to launch an operation against lato-lato),” Dalogdog said.
