THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has designated 36 stops for the 40 units of modern bus-jeep (beep) that were proposed to ply two routes in Cebu City.

The CCTO planned nine stops for the primary route, which is from Cebu City Hall to the Cebu IT Park.

The first drop-off and pick-up point will be beside Plaza Sugbo (P. Burgos St.). The second stop is on S. Osmeña Ave. near Pier 1. The third stop is along the waiting shed on V. Sotto St., while the fourth stop is at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu drop-off area on Benedicto St.

The CCTO placed the fifth stop outside the Cebu City Health Department on Gen. Maxilom Ave. The sixth stop is the existing bus stop at the Samar Loop of the Cebu Business Park (CBP), while the next stop is the waiting shed on Mindanao Ave. of the CBP.

Other stops include outside the Bureau of Internal Revenue building on Arch. Reyes Ave. and the existing bus stop at the IT Park.

From the Cebu IT Park, the first stop is on Pope John Paul II Ave., not far from an existing jeepney stop near the Petron gasoline station. The second stop is near the corner of New Era St.

The other stops are the jeepney stop, next to the Robinsons Galleria drop-off point and on MJ Cuenco Ave. near the corner of V. Gullas St.

There are several PUV (public utility vehicle) stops for the beeps’ secondary route that starts from Duterte St. in Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe toward Sykes in Barangay Mabolo. The CCTO designated nine loading and unloading areas for these routes.

The office also drew up 11 stops from Sykes in Mabolo toward Paseo Arcenas in Banawa.

The first stop is at the Paseo Arcenas, followed by another stop on Duterte St. in front of Margaret’s Place. Near the entrance of Sacred Heart Village is the designated third stop.

Other stops are in front of Espina Village on B. Rodriguez St., the waiting shed of One Mango on Gen. Maxilom Ave., and the vicinity of University of San Carlos North Campus.

There is also an identified stop near a jeepney stop on Cardinal Rosales Ave. and a stop at the IT Park before going back to Sykes. From Sykes, the stop is near the Sarrosa Hotel. The other stops are on Mindanao Ave. and F. Sotto St. near Richmond Hotel.

The other identified stops are on D. Jakosalem St. near the Sacred Heart Church; in Cogon Central Ramos; on V. Ranudo St., Osmeña Blvd. near Metrobank building; B. Rodriguez St. near Sojo Mall and D’Voice KTV and Grill before going back to Paseo Arcenas.

CCTO operations head Francisco Ouano said they will make sure the PUV stops fit the 3.5 meters width of a beep to avoid traffic jams.

The passengers, Ouano said, should wait for a ride at the designated pick-up areas and disembark at the drop-off points. Beep operator Persano Corp. will deploy 20 modern PUVs for each route.

The CCTO has endorsed its proposed PUV stops and routes to the office of Councilors Dave Tumulak and Eugenio Gabuya Jr.

The two councilors will pass a resolution before the City Council to allow the modern PUVs to pick up passengers, but they still have to wait for the council to resume its regular sessions in January. (KAL)
