ONE of the fire sub-stations in Barangay Pardo, Cebu City is manned by women.

From its chief, SFO4 Anadith Trasporte, to the driver of the fire truck and the crew of 13.

They were introduced to the public by the Cebu City Fire Office (CCFO) during a short ceremony at the Parian Fire Station on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022.

In an interview with Trasporte, she said she happily embraced the idea of an all-female fire sub-station, considering it is the first of its kind in the country.

“Nagandam gyud mi para maipakita sa tanan nga dili hindrance sa usa ka babaye parte sa firefighting (We are ready to show people that it is not a hindrance for a woman when it comes to firefighting),” she said.

She said they also want to show that female firefighters can work hand in hand with their male counterparts when responding to fire alarms.

“Unsay kaya sa mga kalalakihan nga mga firefighters kaya gyud na namo (We are as capable as male firefighters),” Trasporte said.

She said one of the challenges they anticipate are civilians who insist on helping put out a fire.

If they allow firefighters, whether men or women, to do their job, a fire can be contained and put out much quicker, she said.
