CEBU Governor Hilario Davide III hopes that the proposed fourth bridge connecting mainland Cebu and Mactan Island will start in Consolacion town.

He made the reaction following the announcement of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar that studies are being made for the construction of a fourth bridge.

Davide said if he had his way, he preferred that the proposed fourth bridge will be constructed somewhere in Northern Cebu, preferably Consolacion, as a way to bring them closer to the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

The governor said the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), who conducted a feasibility study on the proposed fourth bridge, recommended to construct in Consolacion and end up in Barangay Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City.

He also hopes that a fourth bridge which would connect Northern Cebu to Lapu-Lapu City could help in decongesting traffic in the former.

Aside from decongesting traffic, Davide said the fourth bridge could provide convenience to many residents living in Northern Cebu who want to reach the airport quickly without suffering from bumper-to-bumper traffic. (JKV/SunStar Cebu)
