AT LEAST 17 persons were arrested in Central Visayas for violating the liquor ban as of 6 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2022.
The liquor ban of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is in effect from May 8 to May 9, 2022, or until after the national and local elections is over.
According to Brigadier General Roque Eduardo Vega, chief of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas, Bohol province has the most number of offenders with eight, followed by Lapu-Lapu with four, Mandaue with three, and Cebu province with two.
A total of 13 persons were also arrested for having in their possession an envelope containing sample ballots and stapled money, which is in violation of Presidential Decree 247, an act prohibiting and penalizing defacement, mutilation, tearing, burning or destruction of Central Bank notes.
Twelve of those arrested were in Cebu City.
Colonel Engelbert Soriano, chief of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, said that overall, the election proceedings were peaceful and orderly and that no untoward incidents have been reported at the polling centers. (AYB, TPT)
