A GRADUATE of Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) topped the Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examination that was held on August 5 and 6, 2023.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) said Roy Christian Oro, who finished Magna Cum Laude at CIT-U, placed first among the 2,133 examinees who passed the test. There were a total of 4,237 examinees, it added.

Oro, the only topnotcher from the Visayas, got 94.70 percent rating. He is the 737th board topnotcher produced by CIT-U.

In 2019, the school also produced four topnotchers in the Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination.

"As we heard the news that Christian is the top 1, it was not really a surprise to us when the results were fully released. The school was very happy with his achievements and we were expecting it already," said lawyer Corazon Valencia, CIT-U’s vice president for Academic Affairs.

In an interview, Oro said he used Pomodoro technique, a time management method that requires a person to allot 25 to 30 minutes for “focused work” and five to 15 minutes break.

He said time management is very challenging for him because one of his hobbies is online gaming, so he really had to balance his time, both in studying and gaming.

"When it's time to study, ako jud na ihipos akong laptop jud, like e sulod sa akong bag and put it inside my closet, so I won't be tempted to use my laptop," he said.

He added that prayers, efforts and discipline are the key components to succeed in everything. "As long as you did your all, then it's fine."

In CIT-U, students who are academically challenged have also been encouraged to undergo “academic interventions programs,” said Engr. Roberto Base Jr., assistant dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture. (Cherry Ann Virador, Benedicto College intern)
