AS FUEL prices continue to rise, the Cebu City Government plans to roll out more discount cards to motorists and pursue the creation of a fuel depot in the city.

During MyTV Cebu’s Openline Forum on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, Mayor Michael Rama said that he will welcome any program that can mitigate the effects of the subsequent increases in fuel products’ prices.

Rama added that he will sit down with fuel companies to check the possibility of increasing the discounts that can be given to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

In April this year, the Cebu City Government partnered with Phoenix fuel company to launch the “Gasolina Mo, Sagot Ko” project.

PUV drivers can avail themselves of discounts of at least P2 per liter depending on the weekly prices of oil products.

According to project implementer Gerardo Carillo, who is also the chairman of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, around 100,000 individuals in the city have received the discount card.

Carillo sai the identified beneficiaries were drivers of PUVs, taxis, buses, tricycles, and motorcycles for hire.

Since January this year, the price of diesel has increased by P36.85, gasoline by P26.55, and kerosene has increased by P33.10.

Aside from discount cards, Rama also mulls the possibility of opening a fuel depot at the South Road Properties wherein motorists can get cheaper fuel products.

After the onslaught of Typhoon Odette (Rai) in December 2021, the City Government was able to open a fuel depot at the SRP to help ease problem on fuel demand.
