CONGRESSIONAL funding is still needed before the old city jail facility in Mandaue City can be converted into the new campus of the city’s community college.
This was what Mandaue City congresswoman-elect Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon said when SunStar Cebu asked her about the project on Friday, May 27, 2022.
Dizon, who will represent the newly created Mandaue City lone district starting June 30, said she plans to seek funds for the transfer of the city’s jail from its current location in Barangay Looc to its new location in Dungguan, Barangay Basak.
Once the city jail is transferred to Basak, the Mandaue City government plans to convert the old jail facility in Looc into the new campus for the Mandaue City College (MCC).
“The Mandaue City Government and I will try our best to start working on these facilities by this year. I would defend the budget for these in the 19th Congress, so this would be approved for funding by 2023,” Ouano-Dizon said.
Separate building
During her meeting with Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Ouano-Dizon said they plan to provide additional funds for landfill and more retaining walls for the administrative building of the new city jail in Basak and to construct a separate building for the Mandaue City Jail Female Dormitory, located in the same facility.
The MCJ and MCC rehabilitation and relocation are part of Cortes’ plan to improve jail and school facilities as he renewed his term after having been reelected in the May 9 elections.
