Cop dies 2 days after accidental firing

SENIOR Police Officer 1 Roderick Balili died of two gunshot wounds on his chest after two days reportedly because of accidental firing during a surveillance in the town of Pinamungajan.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas spokesperson, Superintendent Reyman Tolentin, told reporters that the wounds proved to be fatal for the police officer.

"He was hit twice on his upper extremities, in his chest," Tolentin said.

This, as the PRO-7 clarified that it was not Balili who shot Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Central Visayas agent Von Rian Tecson .

The incident of the accidental firing happened at 11:50 a.m. while Tecson's ambush-slay happened at past 12 noon, the PRO-7 said.

Chief Supt. Debold Sinas admitted that an operative was wounded past noon last Wednesday, the same day PDEA 7 officer Von Rian Tecson was killed in Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City.

Sinas said the operative was not involved in the agent’s death and that the latter was a victim of accidental firing. Balili, he said, was not shot by Tecson. The 41-year-old Tecson was in the passenger seat of his black Ford Ranger driven by Arnold Bauyaban during the ambush. (JOB)
