Cordova LGU approves e-trike registration ordinance

THE Cordova local government unit has approved an ordinance requiring the registration of both private and passenger electric tricycles (e-trikes).

Councilor Lemuel Pogoy, the majority floor leader and chairman of the Committee on Public Utilities, Communications, and Transportation, created Ordinance No. 2023-111 after realizing the importance of registering all e-trikes that travel in the area.

The registration for the e-trikes with the Traffic Management Office must be renewed annually.

The electric vehicles, however, are not permitted to travel on main thoroughfares or national highways even though they are registered.

Minors are also not allowed to drive the e-trikes.

Designated fares for e-trikes are P15 for special trip, P10 for regular trip, and a discounted rate of P8 for senior citizens, students and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

E-trikes that are not registered would be subject to fines between P500 and P2,500 or even impoundment. (ANV, TPT)
