THE Cordova local government unit (LGU) has once again informed enterprises, particularly milk tea and fruit juice vendors, that using plastic drinking straws is not allowed in the municipality.

This after several stores were found violating Ordinance No. 2022-83 during the inspection conducted by Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan and the staff from the Business Process and Licensing Office, Solid Waste Management, and Solid Waste Management Task Force.

The said ordinance prohibits the use of single-use plastic and styrofoam every Wednesday and Saturday in any stores or restaurants.

"The use of plastic drinking straws is absolutely prohibited in all stores, restaurants, and other business establishments within the Municipality of Cordova," according to the LGU.

Suan urged the residents to become accustomed to not using plastic and styrofoam in order to reduce pollution and keep the municipality clean.

The said ordinance has been in effect since last March.

The mayor said that while he had issued a warning for the time being, anyone breaking the law again would face fines.(ANV, TPT)
