THE FAMED dancing inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) will take centerstage again as they are set to perform in a special viewing organized by the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office (CPTO) on Friday, Sep. 8, 2023.

Over 300 inmates will perform a ‘90s-themed dance for about 200 guests at CPDRC’s viewing deck. Their special appearance on Sep. 8 is also in celebration of the Virgin Mary’s birthday.

Arnela Tangkay, CPDRC dancing inmates’ coordinator of the CPTO, told SunStar Cebu that this event marks the return of the dancing inmates as they were unable to perform during their usual Saturday afternoon slot due to the preparations made for the recently concluded “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo 2023” in August.

Tangkay said the dancing inmates will perform twice on Sep. 8, once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

The Cebu Provincial Government has also arranged transportation by providing a coaster to ferry guests from the Capitol compound to CPDRC. These services are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Tangkay said the performances will be free of admission, but visitors are encouraged to support the inmates by purchasing locally-made souvenirs.

Proceeds from the sales will be deposited to inmates’ personal bank accounts to support them upon their release.
