THE Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas encouraged breastfeeding mothers to get vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and pass on the benefits of the vaccine to their babies.

Breastfeeding mothers who received a Covid-19 vaccine can develop antibodies, which can be beneficial for their babies, said Ronadit Capala Arriesgado, Nurse V at the DOH-Central Visayas Center for Health Development.

She said that all vaccine brands, except for Russia’s Sputnik V, are safe for breastfeeding mothers.

“We also encourage the mothers that even if they are positive of Covid-19, they can continue breastfeeding their babies,” she said.

She said there no study shows that coronavirus could be transferred by a mother to her baby through breastmilk.
