A HAND grenade was found by drainage workers near a carwash station past 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in Tojong Street, Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.

Reggie Manugas said in an interview with SunStar Cebu that his fellow worker Isidro Hermoso discovered the explosive while digging in the ground with a crowbar.

Manugas was grateful that the grenade was not hit by a jackhammer during their excavation activity the evening before the discovery.

"Kaloy-an tawon mi sa Ginoo kay gabii amo nang gi-jack hammer aron madali tarabaho sa drainage," Manugas said.

(God pitied us because we worked on the drainage at night with a jackhammer).

Manugas claimed that after reporting the incident to their foreman, the latter requested assistance from the barangay.

Later, the barangay tanods and the operatives of Abellana Police Station 2 arrived and cordoned off the area where the explosive was found.

Police Master Sergeant Alexander Terado of the Abellana Police Station 2 claimed that they could not yet determine whether the grenade was a relic of the second World War.

Police Executive Master Sergeant Joel Taboada of Explosive Ordnance Division in Central Visayas (EOD 7) said that although the hand grenade no longer have a pin, it will still explode especially when it is dropped or exposed to heat because its content is still intact. (With TPT)
