Elderly couple lose valuables to riding-in-tandem in Liloan town

AN ELDERLY couple lost their cash and jewelry to the riding-in-tandem robbers in Purok Gmelina 1, Barangay Tayud in the northern Cebu town of Liloan past 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2023.

The victims were a businessman and his wife, both 60 years old. They asked not to be named for security reasons.

The perpetrators, who were riding a Honda XRM motorcycle, remain unidentified.

They were wearing bonnets, helmets and jackets.

The victims, who came from their office in Mandaue City, had just arrived home in Tayud in a vehicle when the suspects appeared, pointed a gun at them, and announced a holdup, according to Staff Sergeant Dennis Pepito of the Liloan Police Station.

The criminals also fired three rounds into the air, which terrified the husband, causing him to slam on the accelerator but instead hit the gate of their house.

The couple's possessions, including P70,000 in cash, a telephone, jewelry worth P222,000, an ATM card, and several credit cards, were then taken by the attackers.

Pepito stated that they are still searching for CCTV cameras along the suspects' escape path.

He thought the offenders had previously watched the victims' movements.

"Ako tan-aw mga notado na ni sila kay paspas kaayo ilang pagtrabaho (I assume they are experts, because they worked quickly)," Pepito said. (GPL, TPT)
