THE 78-year-old woman who was mauled by her son in Argao town, southern Cebu will soon be able to live in a decent house.

This, after the Argao local government unit (LGU) announced that it will construct a house for Saturnina Arobo, who was punched by her son Alberto, 36, on the left side of her face after the suspect, who arrived drunk at their house at dawn on Sunday, June 18, could not find the P2,000 that he left on the table.

According to reports, the suspect asked his mother if she took the money.

At the height of their conversation, a heated disagreement broke out, leading to Alberto punching the victim in the face.

The victim, who is also battling cancer, was personally visited by Mayor Allan Sesaldo in her dilapidated home in Sitio Kabalawan, Barangay Tabayag.

When her son is released from prison, Saturnina asked the LGU to deny her son permission to live with her once more.

"Hangyo sa biktima nga di na unta siya mopuyo sa iyang balay human sa pagpangulata sa iyang anak mahitungod sa trauma nga iyang natagamtam," according to the LGU on Wednesday, June 21.

(The victim requested that she should no longer live in their house because of the trauma that she experienced after being mauled by her son.)

Personnel of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development vowed to regularly visit the victim to ensure her safety.

Sesaldo ordered the Municipal Engineering Office to create a blueprint for the victim's home and prepare the paperworks for the lot where the home will be erected.

Meanwhile, Alberto is currently detained at the Argao police station.

A charge for physical injury has already been filed by the police against him.

Sesaldo expressed hope that the youngsters in the municipality who have been raised by their parents since birth won't do the same to their parents.

"Mahimo unta kining pagtulon-an sa tanan nga way katungod ang bisan kinsa nga mangulata, manukmag, o uban pang pag-abuso sa isig katawo o sa pamilya man," according to the LGU.

(I hope that everyone will learn from this that they have no right to physically assault, punch, or otherwise maltreat their family members or other people.) (ANV/TPT)
