A COOK who was reportedly addicted to gambling was arrested after he stole the motorcycle and cellphone of his foreign employer.

Danish national Nekecilyn Roda Gador Sorensen, 66, married, of Barangay Malabago, Badian town and owner of Cuestas Beach Resort, sought the help of the police immediately after he discovered around 4:30 p.m. that his Honda Beat scooter and cellphone were already missing.

Police arrested Jose Ponteres San Pablo Jr., 40, in a follow-up operation around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in his residence in Barangay MontaƱeza, Malabuyoc town, southwest Cebu.

Police Staff Sergeant Dennis Sun, investigator of Badian Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that they recovered the stolen items from the suspect.

According to Sun, Sorensen dismissed San Pablo last week for his wrongdoings.

Sun said the suspect borrowed P25,000 from the victim to pay for the hospitalization of the child, whom he hit while he was driving a motorcycle.

But it turned out that San Pablo was just fabricating a story as no such incident occurred in the municipality and the motorcycle had no damage.

"Nahibaw-an nila nga naboang sa sugal sa manok ang suspek, sigeg kapildi maong naputos sa utang" Sun said.

(They learned that the suspect was addicted to gambling, always lost and has large debts).

"He would even go to other places where cockfights and derbies are held," was how Sun described the suspect in his addiction to cockfighting. (GPL, TPT)
