IN order to prevent the white sand from being washed away, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia is set to issue an executive order directing the Cebu Provincial Government to build coastal barriers in Santa Fe town on Bantayan Island.

During their meeting at the Capitol last Monday, August 8, 2023, Garcia and Santa Fe officials agreed to build a uniformed coastal barrier that will protect beach front properties from erosion.

According to the Capitol, that the Cebu Port Authority's pier, in particular, was said to have blocked the normal flow of sea water, which led to an uneven distribution of the sands.

Garcia had previously stated her desire to create a "environmentally friendly" port to allow unrestricted seawater flow.

The project will have an initial budget of P500 million.

In addition to the municipality's white sand beaches, which are popular with both domestic and international tourists, the governor wants all buildings there to be environmentally sustainable.(ANV, TPT)
