CEBU Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has offered a relocation site to the National Food Authority in Central Visayas (NFA 7) so that the agency can vacate its current location on Gov. M. Cuenco Ave., near the Cebu IT Park, and allow Capitol to use the prime commercial lot.
According to Sugbo News, Capitol’s social media arm, Garcia told NFA 7 Director Maria Fe Evasco during a meeting on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023 that the Provincial Government will shoulder the cost of construction at the new location which will either be at the Government Center in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Lahug or within the compound of the Department of Agriculture on M. Velez Street.
The two proposed areas are in Cebu City.
The governor also assured NFA officials that they will continue to operate in the old facility until the construction of offices and storage area in the new location is completed.
Evasco said Garcia’s offer was a win-win solution for both sides, although she had yet to inform the NFA Central Office about the matter, Sugbo News reported.
The current NFA facility sits on a 5,000-square-meter commercial lot.
Evasco acknowledged that because of the traffic congestion created in the area whenever they hauled in rice from the port using ten-wheeler trucks, the current facility is no longer ideal for the NFA.
The NFA field office has a buffer storage capacity of 100 thousand sacks of rice.
The NFA is the second government organization asked by the governor to relocate to a site provided by the Province following the Visayas Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. (PAC, ANV / TPT)
