Habal-habal driver yields gun, ATM cards in Comelec checkpoint in Lapu-Lapu City

A MOTORCYCLE taxi (habal-habal) driver yielded a .45 pistol with seven live rounds at a Comelec checkpoint in Barangay Subabasbas, Lapu-Lapu City, around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

The suspect was identified as Noel Mantilla Amuallas, 49, married, who is temporarily residing in the said barangay.

Police Chief Master Sergeant Romualdo Añana of Lapu-Lapu City Police Station 4 told SunStar Cebu that they flagged down Amuallas and demanded for his driver’s license and the motorcycle’s official receipt and certificate of registration, all of which the suspect was able to present.

However, when the authorities asked him to open his u-box, a gun without a license, some IDs, and ATM cards that weren't his were discovered inside.

A jeepney conductor, one of the ID’s owners, already claimed his lost item after the police contacted him through the cellphone number found in his ID.

The conductor acknowledged that a burglar stole his ID and cellphone. (DVG, TPT)
