'Illegal drugs' seized in greyhound

TABLETS believed to be party drugs, shabu, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were confiscated after almost 700 personnel scoured the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) in a surprise greyhound operation on Friday morning, September 7.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas said they conducted the operation to help the jail facility.

"We're not doing this because we want to find fault. We're working together to solve this problem," Sinas said.

CPDRC warden Retired Major Rey Valmoria said they coordinated with the PRO-Central Visayas and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after they received reports that drugs will be sneaked inside the jail before their fiesta celebration.

The contraband seized included:

* 190 marijuana sticks

* 100 tablets (heart-shaped, Hello Kitty-shaped) believed to be party drugs like ecstasy and valium (controlled drugs)

* 21 sachets of shabu in different sizes

* 191 cellphones

* P80,000 cash

* Improvised electric stove

* Pocket Wi-Fis

* Tobacco

* Lighters

* Drug paraphernalia

* Syringes

* Jewelries

The greyhound operation started at 4 a.m. and lasted until 7 a.m. It was conducted by operatives from Cebu City Police Office, Cebu Provincial Police Office, and PDEA-Central Visayas K9 units. (JOB)
