A 19-YEAR-OLD maritime student landed in jail for hitting a love rival with a baseball bat Thursday afternoon, Oct. 27, 2022, in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

Arrested was Stephen Abas Pasay, a resident of Barangay Pasil, Cebu City.

He was nabbed after he hit Lorenz (real name withheld for being a minor) who was walking with a friend around 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Sitio Bugnay 1, Barangay Labangon when the incident happened.

Maj. Janelito Marquez, chief of the Cebu City Police Station 10 in Labangon, said Pasay, who was on board his bike, suddenly approached Lorenz and hit him with a baseball bat.

Pasay, however, failed to run away, as he was grabbed by the victim’s friend.

Lorenz was rushed to a hospital, where he is still currently confined.

The suspect, on the other hand, was brought to the station to be detained. A frustrated murder charge is set to be filed against him, said police.

Rift over woman

Interviewed by SunStar Cebu on Friday, Oct. 28, Pasay said he was not able to prevent himself from hitting Lorenz after he learned that the latter had a relationship with his 18-year-old partner.

The relationship between the victim and Pasay’s girlfriend was confirmed by Marquez, who said that based on their investigation, it appeared that the two have a relationship.

Marquez said Pasay’s girlfriend even accompanied Lorenz to the hospital.

Marquez said jealousy is what prompted Pasay to hit Lorenz.

The police learned that the girlfriend was living with Pasay in Barangay Pasil, but as of Friday, the woman had already gone home to her parents’ house. (BBT / LMY)
