TWO years after Mactan Barangay Councilor Zandro Augusto was killed outside his pawnshop at the public market in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City on September 19, 2020, his family may finally find the justice they sought for his death.

On October 5, 2022, operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Central Visayas served the warrant of arrest to Marcos Limpangog delos Santos Jr., alias Dodong, who was tagged as the gunman.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office had created a Special Investigation Task Group that included the CIDG 7 to find Augusto’s killer, as the victim was a public official.

In the course of their investigation, delos Santos’ name surfaced.

Witnesses were also able to identify him, which was why he was charged with murder.

In December 2020, Regional Trial Court Branch 27 Judge Nelson Galuna Leyco in Lapu-Lapu City issued the warrant for his arrest.

No bail was recommended.

On October 5, a confidential agent spotted delos Santos along UN Avenue in Barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City.

The CIDG Central Visayas immediately formed a tracker team that arrested the accused at 5:10 that same afternoon.

According to Colonel Peter Tagtag Jr., CIDG Central Visayas chief, delos Santos is the 10th most wanted person in the region.

He said they had a hard time locating delos Santos because the latter would move the moment he noticed the police were hot on his heels.

Delos Santos’ arrest was part of the CIDG flagship project known as Oplan Pagtugis, a campaign against wanted persons. (AYB, PJB)
