Landfill hillside collapses; waste hits dumptruck driver

PILES of garbage fell on a driver aboard a dumptruck after a hillside portion of a private sanitary landfill in the northern town of Consolacion collapsed Saturday afternoon, May 4.

In a phone interview on Sunday, May 5, Consolacion Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Danilo Capangpangan said they received the alarm at 4 p.m.

"Base sa among investigation, nahulpa ang portion sa landfill tungod sa duha ka adlaw nga pag-ulan. Ning-seep in ang tubig, hinungdan nga nahulpa (Based on our investigation, the portion of the landfill collapsed due to the consecutive rains we've experienced in the past two days. The rainwater seeped in, causing the hillside portion to cave in)," Capangpangan told SunStar Cebu.

Capangpangan added that the driver did not sustain major injuries and the dumptruck was not damaged. (RTF)
