FORMER Manila City mayor and former Buhay Partylist Representative Lito Atienza urged the public not to support the Senate bill proposing the legalization of divorce in the country, saying this will make life more miserable for the family.

Atienza was in Cebu City Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, to attend a press conference with the topic: “Filipinos must strongly say no to divorce bill, same-sex marriage and medical marijuana.”

Atienza said the children will be the most affected when their parents separate.

He said the annulment of marriage as legalized by Republic Act 8533 is already a solution.

Atienza’s group also opposed two Senate bills that seek to legalize and regulate the medical use of cannabis and to institutionalize civil unions of same-sex couples, respectively.

All three bills have been proposed by neophyte Senator Robin Padilla.

Pro-life advocate Dr. Rene Josef Bullecer of Human Life International, who also attended the conference Friday, supported Atienza’s call.

Atienza hopes that the bills will not get the nod of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

He said that on the bills on sex marriage and death penalty, they were able to convince former President Rodrigo Duterte not to approve them.

Atienza said his group is against any kind of measure that is not pro-family and pro-life, including the legalization of abortion.

He added that the public must voice out their opposition to these measures for Marcos to hear them.

“Wala na si Presidente Duterte. Hindi na kongresman si Lito Atienza. Sino ang dapat magsalita? Ang taong bayan. The people must speak up, will you support measures like these?” Atienza said.

(President Duterte is gone. Lito Atienza is no longer a congressman. Who should speak? The people of the country. The people must speak up, will you support measures like these?)

“Ang bagong pangulo natin ngayon, Pangulong Marcos, makikinig yan pagmalakas ang tinig ng bayan,” he added.
