Limestone miner killed in Camotes

A 25-YEAR-OLD man from San Francisco, Camotes Island was killed after the limestone quarry he was working on collapsed on him due to heavy rains brought about Tropical Depression Agaton (Megi) on Monday, April 11, 2022.

Avito Espinosa was reportedly digging for limestone at a small quarry in Sitio Mangodlong, Barangay Himensulan in San Francisco, Camotes Island at around 5 p.m. on Monday when a minor landslide suddenly occurred at the quarry he was working on.

A large rock sitting on top of the quarry suddenly gave way and pinned Espinosa.

Espinosa was immediately brought by his neighbors to a nearby hospital in town but he died before getting treatment.

Edgar Dagatan, Espinosa's companion at that time, told emergency responders that heavy rains brought about by Agaton caused the landslide at the quarry.

Due to the incident, local police announced that the municipal goverment of San Francisco has suspended all quarrying activities in the town due to the bad weather. (ANV / JKV)
