Mall janitor jailed for trying to steal pork bones

AN employee of a mall in Barangay Apas, Cebu City, who worked as a janitor was apprehended by the establishment’s security guard for allegedly trying to steal pork bones while he was leaving the building at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28.

Junver Dejito Vercede, 29, a resident of Sitio Baca of the said barangay was later turned over the Mabolo Police Station at 11:30 p.m.

The pork bones were discovered by the mall’s security guard, Maria Regina Batosalem Pantilgan, 43, of COB Security Agency, in his bag during inspection.

Vercede revealed that his fellow cashier and saleslady instructed him to bring the pack but he was not aware that it contained pork bones.

The bones valued at P116.38 were recovered by the guard.

“Gipadala to sa akoa sir sa cashier namo ug tindera. Ingon man siya nga ok nana dalha nana didto ug apil,” said Vercede.

(The cashier and the saleslady sent it to me. You may take them there, she assured me).

He was hauled to the Mabolo Police Station despite his denial and imprisoned there since the operator who would have looked over the CCTV footage to support his claim had already left for home.

Vercede urged his co-workers to tell the truth, because, as far as he knew, they denied giving him the order to bring the pork bones.

The suspect will be charged with theft. (BBT, TPT)
