Mall voting simulation in Cebu City on Aug. 19

THE holding of voting for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in malls in Cebu City hinges on the success of the voting simulation that will be held later this month.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cebu Province said that 50 individuals will participate in the voting simulation, which is scheduled to take place at Robinsons Galleria Cebu at the North Reclamation Area on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023.

Comelec Cebu focal person Omar Sharif Mamalinta said in an interview on Monday, Aug. 7 that Cebu City is one of the pilot areas in the country for pilot testing mall voting to determine its feasibility.

“This is the initial plan. If this will be successful, there is a possibility that we will conduct mall voting for the upcoming Oct. 30, 2023 elections,” he said.

Only malls with a memorandum of agreement with Comelec can be considered as voting centers.

The Comelec also conducted an ocular inspection of the voting centers on July 25 and 26, in schools in Carcar City, Cebu, which are identified as voting centers. (STB)
