THE Talisay City Sports Committee has decided to ban the two basketball players from participating the remaining Mayor’s Cup 2023 and Mayor’s Cup 2024 matches after getting into a fight during a game.

Aside from being suspended, Kian Cabuenas and Mark Clarence Hernaiz were also ordered to pay the medical expenses of the victim, Adrian Toring.

Cabuenas and Hernaiz will each pay the Mayor's Cup Tournament Committee P5,000 as a penalty for their offense.

On August 20, 2023, Cabuenas and Hernaiz from the Barangay Lagtang squad got into a fight with Toring from Barangay San Isidro because of the intensity of the game.

"The sanctions will serve as a lesson to the two players and a warning for those who are playing this season. We don't tolerate violence in our tournaments," Gullas said through his social media page on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

Mayor Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas said that the committee’s decision to suspend them from playing for two seasons or until the Mayor’s Cup 2024 will not change.

"Ang tulo together with their coaches, parents, guardians and barangay representatives met at our office for a meeting with the City Sports Commission concerning last Sunday's incident," he stated.

The mayor announced that those involved have agreed to settle the problem.

"Nalipay lang ko that the three players involved in the brawl during the opening game of this year's Mayor's Cup last Monday have settled their differences," Gullas said.(ANV, TPT)
