MINGLANILLA town in southern Cebu will soon be home to a soccer field and a rubber oval track.

Mayor Rajiv Enad said both projects are expected to be completed later this year.

Enad said the field and the oval track are located in Barangay Poblacion, next to the unfinished Minglanilla Sports Complex. The sports complex is also expected to be completed this year.

Although he did not say how much the field and the oval track cost, he said these will run in the millions with a big chunk of the funding coming from private donors.

“Atoang gidevelop ang atoang (We are developing our) future nga soccer field kay (because) we want to introduce soccer sa (in) Minglanilla because it is a universal sport. We want to involve our grassroots level,” the mayor said.

Although this program is intended to benefit local residents, Enad said outsiders can use the field and the oval track for a small fee.

“We are improving our oval so it will become rubberized like the oval at the Cebu City Sports Center. That way we can host games of different schools,” he said in Cebuano. (BBT / PJB)
