Minglanilla town imposes restrictions, including curfew and checkpoints, to prevent undesirable events

THE Minglanilla police have already started conducting checkpoints to address the robbery incidents that occurred in the southern Cebu municipality recently.

Minglanilla Mayor Rajiv Enad called an emergency meeting with the barangay captains to settle the issue.

During the meeting, Mayor Enad made a decision to reinstate the curfew for minors, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. of the following day.

He also ordered the police to conduct random checkpoints in the barangays to prevent undesirable events from happening during the wee hours.

The barangay captains were also instructed to record any robberies that occurred in their respective areas in the police log, particularly if the victim refused to cooperate.

The town’s curfew ordinance will also be amended to include a fine for parents, who allow their kids to remain outside during the curfew hours.

The municipality will also request the National Police Commission (Napolcom) to deploy more police officers to Minglanilla.

The barangay tanods will also be made to undergo training on how to make a citizen's arrest.

A federation will also be established for habal-habal drivers so they can be easily identified.

All drivers must have IDs, uniforms, and be registered.

"Aron dali mailhan kinsa ang trusted ug recognized nga mga drivers. Hinuon ang official pletehan hisgutan pa sa council," the LGU said.

(In order to easily recognize who are the trusted and recognized drivers. But the official fare will be discussed by the council).

Data from the municipality shows that between May 2023 and July of this year, nine people have been arrested for theft and illegal possession of firearms.(ANV, TPT)
