RAINY season may start next week, said Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Mactan Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

According to Pagasa Mactan, though they do not have official statement yet on the onset of the rainy season, it is likely that it may start next week, as the southwesterly windflow will start to prevail.

In a separate development, Pagasa Mactan said a low pressure area (LPA) that they are monitoring now may develop into a tropical depression (TD) in the next 48 hours. If it develops into a TD it will be named "Butchoy."

"At 10:00 a.m. today , the LPA was estimated at 350 kilometer East Southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 350 km East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte," it said in a message sent to members of the media.

"Sa atong latest analysis and models is padong sa Luzon," it added.

With this, he said parts of Metro Cebu may experience scattered rains and thunderstorms, with occasional heavy rains on Wednesday, June 10, and on Thursday, June 11.

He said the public and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices concerned are advised to monitor the rainfall/thunderstorm advisories and heavy rainfall warnings which may be issued by Pagasa Regional Services Divisions.

Pagasa Mactan said for the whole month of June, the country may have one or two tropical cyclones. (WBS)
