THE town of Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, northern Cebu has officially adopted the name “Panuhug” for its annual festival.

This after the town’s Sangguniang Bayan which previously adopted the name “Puting Baybay Festival” to highlight Santa Fe’s white sand beaches realized that it was just as important to showcase shell craftmaking or “panuhug” which has been the livelihood of many residents for years.

Also, the town is abundant with a variety of seashells that can be used as decorations or food items.

“Shell craft industry making had been one of the main sources of livelihood of Santafehanons in the past and such industry is still striving up to now,” according to the town ordinance.

Santa Fe officials were called on to inform the public about the new development, while residents were advised not to refer to the fiesta event by any name other than “Panuhug Festival.” (ANV / TPT)
