PDEA 7 wary of party drug ecstasy entering Cebu via courier firms

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Central Visayas (PDEA 7) will coordinate with courier companies to inspect parcels that arrive in Cebu to make sure these do not contain illegal drugs like the party drug Ecstasy, especially with Christmas and the Sinulog approaching.

The PDEA 7 has been meeting with other police units that are members of the One Cebu Inter-Agency Interdiction Task Force to prepare for the upcoming holidays.

According to Investigation Agent 1 Jonar Cuayzon, chief of PDEA 7’s Intelligence Section, they want to make sure no contraband will enter the airport and the ports in the province.

“In line with the Sinulog festival, we anticipate the spread of drugs like Ecstasy. In fact, the Cebu City Police Office together with PDEA, PNP (Philippine National Police) and other government agencies have conducted consecutive meetings in preparation for that. We already anticipate a lot people and parties,” he said in a mix of English and Cebuano.

Cuayzon said they will focus on overseas parcels since Ecstasy is manufactured abroad.

He added that illegal drug personalities ship legitimate drugs from legitimate drug companies and mix these with Ecstasy, which is difficult for authorities to detect.
