POLICE personnel in Central Visayas are on alert and standby in their respective police stations to ensure a fast response to any eventualities with Typhoon Auring expected to affect Cebu province.
Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo, Director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 ordered his personnel to standby in their police stations and prepare their search and rescue equipment.
Police Colonel Aladdin Collado, Cebu Provincial Police chief, said he has alerted his subordinates including their cooperation with the crisis response section of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion to assist them in the deployment in the northern provinces of Cebu.
"We already alerted most of the towns in the northern part of Cebu and the whole province," said Collado.
Police will continue to inspect disaster-prone areas to ensure everyone's safety.
If it is necessary to evacuate the residents to the safest place, they will do so by cooperating with the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in each town.
"Kasama yan sa directives ko sa operation officer ko na magkaroon ng recorida and if there's a reason na magkaroon ng evacuation, and we will do that," added Collado.
This means that all disaster and rescue teams across the province are ready for deployment.
According to the information from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) a boat capsized in the town of Medellin. Onboard was fisherman, Gerry Arrogante from Daanbantayan.
Arrogante was immediately rescued.
There are currently no other reported incidents across the province concerning the typhoon.
Fisherfolks are also warned not to risk fishing first. (AYB/ANV/RSR)
