THE poultry farm blamed for the fly infestation in one of Barili town’s barangays has voluntarily suspended its operation.

On March 21, 2022, the office of Barili Mayor Julieto “Julie” Flores received the response of ITS Golden Hen Poultry Farm located in Barangay Tubod as response to the show cause order issued by the Municipal Government against them to explain the circumstances that led to the infestation.

Flores recently said that based on their initial investigation, the farm’s protective screen was damaged when Typhoon Odette (Rai) hit the town last Dec. 16, 2021, and it has not been repaired, causing the flies to swarm in.

Lorena Mae Tabora, the farm’s owner, has assured the mayor that they will cooperate and continue its ongoing efforts in curtailing the fly infestation.

She added that the suspension of the farm’s operation will last for three weeks.

“The management undertakes to devote the said period to conduct its assessment of the farm building and to repair all damages sustained by the farm’s premises during Typhoon Odette,” said Tabora.

Cecilia Paran, who is residing near the farm, told SunStar Cebu on Tuesday, March 22 that they have been experiencing the problem for three weeks already.

“Daghan kaayo pagkaon masayang kay bisan sa amoang balay mosulod gyud ang langaw unya inig sukad namo daghan kaayo langaw magtapok,” said Paran.

Paran also mentioned that a family member of theirs had experienced diarrhea, allegedly due to the bacteria brought by the flies.

The residents living near the farm have installed fly traps as a measure to lessen the number of flies swarming inside their houses, said Paran.
