THE Municipal Government of Barili, southwest Cebu has issued a show cause order against the operators of a commercial poultry farm in Barangay Tubod after it caused a fly infestation in nearby residences over the weekend.

Barili Mayor Julieto “Julie” Flores told SunStar Cebu confirmed that he had sent municipal health personnel in Barangay Tubod after they received complaints from residents that a fly infestation had occurred there.

The investigating team led by Municipal Health Officer Maryjoy Bajarias and acting municipal environment and natural resources office head Edwin Quiros.

During their investigation, local health officials found that a commercial poultry plant situated in the same barangay was the source of the fly infestation.

Based on the show cause order, the municipal government identified the Golden Hen Poultry Farm and Golden Light Property Ventures Corp. as the farm that allegedly caused the infestation.

Flores said that based on their initial investigation, the farm’s protective screen was damaged when Typhoon Odette (Rai) hit the town last Dec. 16, 2021, and it has not been repaired causing the flies to swarm in.

Flores said the infestation only started last weekend and has caused residents to complain over tremendous troubles, inconvenience and concern over health hazards.

Flores said they have ordered the poultry’s farms to submit a written explanation within 72 hours.

Failure to submit an explanation will result in the closure of the farm, Flores added.

In the meantime, barangay health workers were deployed by the mayor to monitor the residents’s wellbeing and to remind them of proper hygiene in order to avoid any diseases.
