THE Police Regional Office (PRO 7) still considers the entire Central Visayas as peaceful and orderly despite the shooting deaths of two politicians from Cebu and Bohol, including the candidate vying for village chief in the upcoming October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

According to PRO 7 Director General Anthony Aberin's spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, the crime rate in Central Visayas is quite low compared to recent months, indicating that the area is safe.

"We have challenges in our peace and security but generally as far as our crime statistics are concerned we are very peaceful," Pelare said in Cebuano.

Last October 5, Councilor Anastacio Pacquiao of Barangay Cansamoroy, Balamban town, who ran for barangay captain, was shot dead by the riding-in-tandem assailants.

The 61-year-old Pacquiao was driving a motorcycle when the gunman peppered him with bullets on the national highway in Prenza, Balamban.

The following day, October 6, Councilor Danilo Añora of Buenavista town, Bohol, was fatally shot by riding-in-tandem assailants along the national highway in the municipality’s Barangay Cangawa.

Pelare said the police in the provinces of Bohol and Cebu are trying to resolve these major incidents as soon as possible.

He urged the community to help them if they have knowledge on the incident. (AYB, TPT)
