THE number of police personnel who are facing administrative cases in Central Visayas is lower in 2022 compared to the year before, according to Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) director.

Based on the press release from the PRO 7, the Regional Internal Affairs Section Central Visayas recorded 85 administrative cases this year compared to the 99 cases last year.

Of the 85 administrative cases, 72 are resolved cases, while 13 are for deliberation by the committee on disposition of administrative cases.

In 2021, 56 administrative cases were resolved.

There is a weekly monitoring of the status of erring Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel to achieve fast resolution of their administrative cases.

Majority of the cases are for grave misconduct followed by grave neglect of duty.

After PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. reintroduced his peace and security framework entitled MKK=K (Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan and Kaunlaran), the PRO 7 has intensified the PNP’s ongoing internal cleansing program to scour its ranks for police personnel involved in illegal activities.

Criminal cases

In 2022, criminal cases were filed against 49 police personnel in Central Visayas, of which 27 have been resolved while 22 are undergoing trial.

The number of criminal cases filed last year was 26.

Alba, in the press release, said the PRO 7 continues to sustain internal discipline within its ranks through the Revitalized Internal Cleansing Strategy “to get rid of incompetent and corrupt police personnel in the organization.”

“In line with the goal of the PNP to improve its credibility, we vowed to step up our efforts to cleanse the ranks in the organization and raise the level of discipline, competence and professionalism. The 4Cs (Connectivity, Critical Thinking, Capability Enhancement and Cleansing) strategic framework of PRO 7 will give weight to the internal cleansing in ensuring that all police officers in Central Visayas possess transparency, accountability and integrity in all their operations. Necessary mechanisms are set into place so that rogue cops are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law because delinquents have no place in the police service,” Alba said. (AYB / PJB)
