THE Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) has sent additional personnel to the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) who would be assigned in Carcar City, southern Cebu following the launching of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Athletic Association (Cviraa) 2023 there.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of PRO 7 Director Brigadier General Anthony Aberin, the CPPO had already deployed 400 policemen in Carcar.

Pelare said one of their priorities is the safety of the athletes, but they are also willing to help man the traffic flow because it is expected that the event will create a traffic jam.

“We have coordinated with the local traffic team along the road to Cebu City and the south municipalities and we have police officers who are also deployed solely and dedicated for traffic because that is one of the expected challenges,” Pelare revealed.

During the opening of Cviraa on Monday, April 24, the traffic flow went smoothly.

The PRO 7 will also deploy “red teams” that will inspect if the security plan that they have prepared has been implemented. They will also be on the lookout for criminals, such as thieves and robbers, who target tourists and athletes.

Tight security will also be implemented in the schools where the players are housed. Pelare asserted that there were no significant issues for the police to deal with on the first day. (AYB, TPT)
