THE Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) has stepped in to investigate the murders of Manguiao Barangay Captain Mario Tundag and his wife Edna in Asturias town, midwest Cebu.
Lieutenant Colonel Mark Gifter Sucalit, deputy provincial director for operation of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO), said on Thursday, March 23, 2023, that after forming the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Tundag, they received a number of information surrounding the incident.
Among those who assisted in the investigation are the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG 7), Regional Forensic Unit, which examined the empty shells recovered from the crime scene, and other police units.
Tundag and his wife were onboard a motorcycle when shot by riding-in-tandem gunmen who were pursuing them in front of Asturias Central School around 9 a.m. last March 14.
Sucalit said that they already have leads that could establish the identities of the gunmen, whom he refused to name.
He also added that their investigation is almost bearing fruit.
“Naa tay nadungog nga mga impormasyon, duol-duol na ang atong imbestigasyon but we are hoping nga sa pwersa sa PRO 7 because dili lang CPPO ang nag-investigate naa sad ang CIDG, ang Regional Intelligence Unit ang Regional Forensic Unit nato ug ubang units nga na belong sa SITG Tundag,” Sucalit said.
