PSA eyes mobile registration for national ID in Central Visayas

TO address the few numbers of registered Filipinos in Central Visayas for the national ID, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Central Visayas conducted mobile registrations in the local government units (LGUS) and institutional registrations in the establishments.

Around 3,343,540 Filipinos have registered for PhilSys Step 2 registration as of August 3, 2021 in Central Visayas, which is 56 percent of 5.9 million target of the region this year.

Cebu Province ranks first which has 2,052,351 registrants; followed by Bohol with 677,458; Negros Oriental 593,638; and Siquijor 22,408 registrants for the same period.

Edwina Carriaga, chief administrative officer civil registration and administration support division of the PSA-Central Visayas, told SunStar Cebu that around 3.4million Filipinos are waiting for the distribution of the cards.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is the assigned agency for the printing of cards.

Carriaga said in terms of accomplishment to target, the Negros Oriental Province has the highest registrants among four provinces in the region.

Carriaga said that Negros Oriental has more or less 500,000 total target.

Cebu, however, has 3,984,559 total target for 2021.

Meanwhile, as of August 10, 2021, Cebu City has the highest number of registrants with 510,652; followed by Lapu Lapu City with 223,598; and Mandaue with 215,246 registrants.

In Cebu province, Toledo City ranks first with 83,456 registrants; followed by City of Naga City 62,674; Barili with 39, 315; Argao with 38,366; Medelllin with 29,012; and Dumanjug 27,820 registrants for the same period.

Furthermore, Firmo Diputado, chief statistical specialist of the PSA-Cebu Provincial Statistical Office, said that they have already accomplished 26 percent of the 3.9 million total target for 2021 in Cebu Province.

Diputado said that they are establishing mobile registrations in each LGU aside from the seven registration centers in Cebu City, three in Lapu Lapu City and four in Mandaue City. (MVE)
