Radioman stabbed to death in Negros Oriental

A RADIO personality died after he was stabbed by a farmer in Barangay Himucdongon, Mabinay town, Negros Oriental around 6 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022.

The victim was identified as Renato Blanco, an anchor of 102.1 dyRY FM Mabinay radio station, who hailed from Talavera Street, Barangay 2, Bais City, Negros Oriental.

His death was allegedly related to his profession.

According to Police Brigadier General Roque Eduardo Vega, director of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, the victim visited his friend Wilbert Amada in the barangay when the latter's brother, Charles, 48, arrived and stabbed him without any provocation.

Blanco sustained a stab wound in his left shoulder.

He was brought to Mabinay Community Hospital, where he was proclaimed dead by attending physician, Dr. Rochelle Kristine Bokingkito.

The suspect surrendered to Himucdungon barangay captain Josephine Amada after the incident.

He also turned over the 10 inches knife used in the crime.

Police investigation showed the suspect got mad at the victim for attacking his family through his radio program.

The police are also looking into other possible motives that led to the killing.

“The Mabinay police are now investigating the incident. I commend Hon. Josephine Amada, barangay captain of Himucdungon, Mabinay, in Negros Oriental, facilitated the surrender and turnover to the responding police for proper disposition. As public servants, we are committed to performing our duties and responsibilities with the highest sense of integrity and accountability,” Vega said.

The suspect is now under the custody of Mabinay police and will be facing murder charges. (AYB, TPT)
